Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.


Harness the horses, mount the steeds! Take your positions with helmets on! Polish your spears, put on your armour!


‘Take up your positions round Babylon, all you who draw the bow. Shoot at her! Spare no arrows, for she has sinned against the Lord.


‘Attack the land of Merathaim and those who live in Pekod. Pursue, kill and completely destroy them,’ declares the Lord. ‘Do everything I have commanded you.


Kill all her young bulls; let them go down to the slaughter! Woe to them! For their day has come, the time for them to be punished.


Even if Babylon ascends to the heavens and fortifies her lofty stronghold, I will send destroyers against her,’ declares the Lord.


Death has climbed in through our windows and has entered our fortresses; it has removed the children from the streets and the young men from the public squares.


In the street the sword will make them childless; in their homes terror will reign. The young men and young women will perish, the infants and those with grey hair.


because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
