and if you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.


Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter – when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?


He does not oppress anyone, but returns what he took in pledge for a loan. He does not commit robbery, but gives his food to the hungry and provides clothing for the naked.


The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me.


John answered, ‘Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.’

If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?
