that I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones, that I may share in the joy of your nation and join your inheritance in giving praise.


Open for me the gates of the righteous; I will enter and give thanks to the Lord.


This is the gate of the Lord through which the righteous may enter.


Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.


you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.’


But all the descendants of Israel will find deliverance in the Lord and will make their boast in him.


In righteousness you will be established: tyranny will be far from you; you will have nothing to fear. Terror will be far removed; it will not come near you.


no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,’ declares the Lord.


Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.


Your gates will always stand open, they will never be shut, day or night, so that people may bring you the wealth of the nations – their kings led in triumphal procession.


No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise.


Then all your people will be righteous and they will possess the land for ever. They are the shoot I have planted, the work of my hands, for the display of my splendour.


and provide for those who grieve in Zion – to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendour.


For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet, till her vindication shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch.


Pass through, pass through the gates! Prepare the way for the people. Build up, build up the highway! Remove the stones. Raise a banner for the nations.


The nations will see your vindication, and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will bestow.


This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Many peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come,


praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.


But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.


But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.


Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.


The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendour into it.


And they sang a new song, saying: ‘You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
