‘And now your servant says, “May the word of my lord the king secure my inheritance, for my lord the king is like an angel of God in discerning good and evil. May the Lord your God be with you.” ’


The king said to the woman, ‘Go home, and I will issue an order on your behalf.’


When all Israel heard the verdict the king had given, they held the king in awe, because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer justice.


So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?’

For the ear tests words as the tongue tastes food.


then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.


Then you will understand what is right and just and fair – every good path.


He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.


This land will be his possession in Israel. And my princes will no longer oppress my people but will allow the people of Israel to possess the land according to their tribes.


He will judge between many peoples and will settle disputes for strong nations far and wide. They will beat their swords into ploughshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.


And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.


He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.


Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.’


But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.


But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’
