He did not recognise him, for his hands were hairy like those of his brother Esau; so he proceeded to bless him.


Then he said, ‘My son, bring me some of your game to eat, so that I may give you my blessing.’ Jacob brought it to him and he ate; and he brought some wine and he drank.


The king asked her, ‘What is troubling you?’ She said, ‘I am a widow; my husband is dead.


The old prophet answered, ‘I too am a prophet, as you are. And an angel said to me by the word of the Lord: “Bring him back with you to your house so that he may eat bread and drink water.” ’ (But he was lying to him.)


Your sin prompts your mouth; you adopt the tongue of the crafty.


Truthful lips endure for ever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.


The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.


keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.


These are the things you are to do: speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts;


Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbour, for we are all members of one body.


Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices
