Then Abimelek brought sheep and cattle and male and female slaves and gave them to Abraham, and he returned Sarah his wife to him.


Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelek, his wife and his female slaves so they could have children again,


and there Abraham said of his wife Sarah, ‘She is my sister.’ Then Abimelek king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her.


Meanwhile, Abimelek had come to him from Gerar, with Ahuzzath his personal advisor and Phicol the commander of his forces.


They answered, ‘We saw clearly that the Lord was with you; so we said, “There ought to be a sworn agreement between us” – between us and you. Let us make a treaty with you


I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.’


But Laban said to him, ‘If I have found favour in your eyes, please stay. I have learned by divination that the Lord has blessed me because of you.’


He said to them, ‘I see that your father’s attitude towards me is not what it was before, but the God of my father has been with me.


Then they went towards the fortress of Tyre and all the towns of the Hivites and Canaanites. Finally, they went on to Beersheba in the Negev of Judah.


Solomon son of David established himself firmly over his kingdom, for the Lord his God was with him and made him exceedingly great.


This is what the Lord says: ‘The products of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush, and those tall Sabeans – they will come over to you and will be yours; they will trudge behind you, coming over to you in chains. They will bow down before you and plead with you, saying, “Surely God is with you, and there is no other; there is no other god.” ’


Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted; propose your plan, but it will not stand, for God is with us.


This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In those days ten people from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, “Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.” ’

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

So David gave his oath to Saul. Then Saul returned home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.


The Lord was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of Samuel’s words fall to the ground.
