God also said to Abraham, ‘As for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah.


They said to them, ‘We can’t do such a thing; we can’t give our sister to a man who is not circumcised. That would be a disgrace to us.


My companion attacks his friends; he violates his covenant.


For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast. On the first day remove the yeast from your houses, for whoever eats anything with yeast in it from the first day until the seventh must be cut off from Israel.


For seven days no yeast is to be found in your houses. And anyone, whether foreigner or native-born, who eats anything with yeast in it must be cut off from the community of Israel.


Whoever makes perfume like it and puts it on anyone other than a priest must be cut off from their people.” ’


Whoever makes incense like it to enjoy its fragrance must be cut off from their people.’


The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant.


The highways are deserted, no travellers are on the roads. The treaty is broken, its witnesses are despised, no-one is respected.


They have returned to the sins of their ancestors, who refused to listen to my words. They have followed other gods to serve them. Both Israel and Judah have broken the covenant I made with their ancestors.


It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,’ declares the Lord.


In addition to all your other detestable practices, you brought foreigners uncircumcised in heart and flesh into my sanctuary, desecrating my temple while you offered me food, fat and blood, and you broke my covenant.


‘ “Everyone who does any of these detestable things – such persons must be cut off from their people.


Whoever eats it will be held responsible because they have desecrated what is holy to the Lord; they must be cut off from their people.


Those who do not deny themselves on that day must be cut off from their people.


Anyone who eats the fat of an animal from which a food offering may be presented to the Lord must be cut off from their people.


Anyone who eats blood must be cut off from their people.” ’


But if anyone who is ceremonially clean and not on a journey fails to celebrate the Passover, they must be cut off from their people for not presenting the Lord’s offering at the appointed time. They will bear the consequences of their sin.


So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.


For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.
