Genesis 14:13 - New International Version (Anglicised)

13 A man who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew. Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamre the Amorite, a brother of Eshkol and Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram.

So Abram went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he pitched his tents. There he built an altar to the Lord.


I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me – to Aner, Eshkol and Mamre. Let them have their share.’


The Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day.


So Abraham brought sheep and cattle and gave them to Abimelek, and the two men made a treaty.


After the treaty had been made at Beersheba, Abimelek and Phicol the commander of his forces returned to the land of the Philistines.


she called her household servants. ‘Look,’ she said to them, ‘this Hebrew has been brought to us to make sport of us! He came in here to sleep with me, but I screamed.


I was forcibly carried off from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing to deserve being put in a dungeon.’


Now a young Hebrew was there with us, a servant of the captain of the guard. We told him our dreams, and he interpreted them for us, giving each man the interpretation of his dream.

One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to where his own people were and watched them at their hard labour. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people.


She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. ‘This is one of the Hebrew babies,’ she said.


‘The elders of Israel will listen to you. Then you and the elders are to go to the king of Egypt and say to him, “The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Let us take a three-day journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God.”


Everyone was to free their Hebrew slaves, both male and female; no-one was to hold a fellow Hebrew in bondage.

When they reached the Valley of Eshkol, they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and figs.


Israel sent messengers to say to Sihon king of the Amorites:


Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they Abraham’s descendants? So am I.


In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:


The commanders of the Philistines asked, ‘What about these Hebrews?’ Achish replied, ‘Is this not David, who was an officer of Saul king of Israel? He has already been with me for over a year, and from the day he left Saul until now, I have found no fault in him.’


That same day a Benjaminite ran from the battle line and went to Shiloh with his clothes torn and dust on his head.
