The Lord said to her, ‘Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the elder will serve the younger.’


So Esau (that is, Edom) settled in the hill country of Seir.


The chiefs of Edom will be terrified, the leaders of Moab will be seized with trembling, the people of Canaan will melt away;


terror and dread will fall on them. By the power of your arm they will be as still as a stone – until your people pass by, Lord, until the people you bought pass by.


In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.


Then he said to them, ‘Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.’


Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise,


‘You have made your way around this hill country long enough; now turn north.


Do not despise an Edomite, for the Edomites are related to you. Do not despise an Egyptian, because you resided as foreigners in their country.


so that you may become blameless and pure, ‘children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.’ Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky


Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.
