Midday passed, and they continued their frantic prophesying until the time for the evening sacrifice. But there was no response, no-one answered, no-one paid attention.


At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: ‘Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command.


Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.


He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants.


May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.


Offer one in the morning and the other at twilight.


Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: with two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.


Such were their faces. They each had two wings spreading out upwards, each wing touching that of the creature on either side; and each had two other wings covering its body.


The creatures sped back and forth like flashes of lightning.


even if these three men – Noah, Daniel and Job – were in it, they could save only themselves by their righteousness, declares the Sovereign Lord.


A hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees.

Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?


In speaking of the angels he says, ‘He makes his angels spirits, and his servants flames of fire.’


The horses and riders I saw in my vision looked like this: their breastplates were fiery red, dark blue, and yellow as sulphur. The heads of the horses resembled the heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire, smoke and sulphur.
