He did evil in the eyes of the Lord his God and did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, who spoke the word of the Lord.


I will speak of your statutes before kings and will not be put to shame,


So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said to him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: “How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, so that they may worship me.


I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless.


You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon.


But when grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil and do not regard the majesty of the Lord.

For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.


‘The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows.


Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.


If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.


But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: ‘God opposes the proud but shows favour to the humble.’
