The Lord said to him, ‘Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram.


Then Jehoash son of Jehoahaz recaptured from Ben-Hadad son of Hazael the towns he had taken in battle from his father Jehoahaz. Three times Jehoash defeated him, and so he recovered the Israelite towns.


So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and for a long time he kept them under the power of Hazael king of Aram and Ben-Hadad his son.


Some time later, Ben-Hadad king of Aram mobilised his entire army and marched up and laid siege to Samaria.


Asa then took the silver and gold out of the treasuries of the Lord’s temple and of his own palace and sent it to Ben-Hadad king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus.


But if you do not obey me to keep the Sabbath day holy by not carrying any load as you come through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle an unquenchable fire in the gates of Jerusalem that will consume her fortresses.” ’


‘I will set fire to the walls of Damascus; it will consume the fortresses of Ben-Hadad.’


Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I set fire to Egypt and all her helpers are crushed.


I will send fire on Magog and on those who live in safety in the coastlands, and they will know that I am the Lord.


Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces; Judah has fortified many towns. But I will send fire on their cities that will consume their fortresses.’


I will send fire on the walls of Tyre that will consume her fortresses.’


I will send fire on Teman that will consume the fortresses of Bozrah.’


I will set fire to the walls of Rabbah that will consume her fortresses amid war cries on the day of battle, amid violent winds on a stormy day.
