the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favour in the eyes of the prison warder.


Now Joseph was the governor of the land, the person who sold grain to all its people. So when Joseph’s brothers arrived, they bowed down to him with their faces to the ground.


Then Judah went up to him and said: ‘Pardon your servant, my lord, let me speak a word to my lord. Do not be angry with your servant, though you are equal to Pharaoh himself.


the Angel who has delivered me from all harm – may he bless these boys. May they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they increase greatly on the earth.’


And forgive your people, who have sinned against you; forgive all the offences they have committed against you, and cause their captors to show them mercy;


For he has not despised or scorned the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help.


The Lord helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.


When the Lord takes pleasure in anyone’s way, he causes their enemies to make peace with them.


For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.


Then you will win favour and a good name in the sight of God and man.


‘Take him and look after him; don’t harm him but do for him whatever he asks.’


The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.


As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.


I answered, ‘Sir, you know.’ And he said, ‘These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
