Jehu will put to death any who escape the sword of Hazael, and Elisha will put to death any who escape the sword of Jehu.


When Jehu came to Samaria, he killed all who were left there of Ahab’s family; he destroyed them, according to the word of the Lord spoken to Elijah.


Yet Jehu was not careful to keep the law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam, which he had caused Israel to commit.


Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.


My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to hear your words, but they do not put them into practice. Their mouths speak of love, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain.


God met with him, and Balaam said, ‘I have prepared seven altars, and on each altar I have offered a bull and a ram.’


‘So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honoured by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.


‘And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.


For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge.
