Terrifying sounds fill his ears; when all seems well, marauders attack him.


Terrors startle him on every side and dog his every step.


How suddenly are they destroyed, completely swept away by terrors!


What the wicked dread will overtake them; what the righteous desire will be granted.


Now the house of David was told, ‘Aram has allied itself with Ephraim’; so the hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken, as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind.


His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his legs became weak and his knees were knocking.


The Philistines assembled and came and set up camp at Shunem, while Saul gathered all Israel and set up camp at Gilboa.


He enquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him by dreams or Urim or prophets.
