But if they do not listen, they will perish by the sword and die without knowledge.


but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.’ For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.


Woe to the wicked! Disaster is upon them! They will be paid back for what their hands have done.


Then they will say, ‘We have no king because we did not revere the Lord. But even if we had a king, what could he do for us?’


The Lord will drive you and the king you set over you to a nation unknown to you or your ancestors. There you will worship other gods, gods of wood and stone.


If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed.


If you violate the covenant of the Lord your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, the Lord’s anger will burn against you, and you will quickly perish from the good land he has given you.’


If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, he will turn and bring disaster on you and make an end of you, after he has been good to you.’


Saul was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned over Israel for forty- two years.
