And Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the River Euphrates to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These countries brought tribute and were Solomon’s subjects all his life.


ten head of stall-fed cattle, twenty of pasture-fed cattle and a hundred sheep and goats, as well as deer, gazelles, roebucks and choice fowl.


But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no adversary or disaster.


But you will have a son who will be a man of peace and rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side. His name will be Solomon, and I will grant Israel peace and quiet during his reign.


He ruled over all the kings from the River Euphrates to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt.


May all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him.


May the mountains bring prosperity to the people, the hills the fruit of righteousness.


Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and for ever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.


This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines before Pharaoh attacked Gaza:


‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.’


Judah also took Gaza, Ashkelon and Ekron – each city with its territory.


One day Samson went to Gaza, where he saw a prostitute. He went in to spend the night with her.
