And they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. And they built treasure cities for Pharaoh, Pithon and Raamses.


And they made their lives bitter with hard work in mortar and in bricks, and in all kinds of work in the field; all their work in which they made them do was with harshness.


And he said, When you midwife the Hebrew women, and look on the birth stools, if it is a son, then you shall kill him. But if it is a daughter, then she shall live.


And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.


And there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph.


And the overseers of the sons of Israel saw themselves in affliction, after it was said, You shall not take away from your bricks of your daily task.


For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done evil to this people. Neither have You delivered Your people at all.


Let more work be laid upon the men, and let them labor in it. And do not let them regard vain words.


how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have lived in Egypt a long time. And the Egyptians troubled us and our fathers.


And when we cried to Jehovah, the God of our fathers, Jehovah heard our voice and looked on our afflictions and our labor and our oppression.


But Jehovah has taken you and brought you out from the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be to Him a people of inheritance, as you are today.
