34 Until this day they do according to their former ways. They do not fear Jehovah, neither do they do according to their statutes, or according to their ordinances, or according to the Law and commandment which Jehovah commanded the sons of Jacob, whom He named Israel.

And He said, Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for like a prince you have power with God and with men, and have prevailed.


And Jacob asked and said, I pray You, reveal Your name. And He said, Why do you ask after My name? And He blessed him there.


And he erected there an altar, and called it El, the God of Israel.


And God said to him, Your name is Jacob. Your name shall not be called Jacob any more, but Israel shall be your name. And He called his name Israel.


And he said to Jeroboam, Take ten pieces for yourself. For so says Jehovah, the God of Israel, Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon and will give ten tribes to you,


And now you say, Go, tell your lord, Behold, Elijah is here!


And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the Word of Jehovah came, saying, Israel shall be your name.


And it happened at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they did not fear Jehovah. And Jehovah sent lions among them, who killed them.


They feared Jehovah and served their own gods, according to the custom of the nations whom they removed from there.


But they did not listen, but they followed after their former way.


He has put forth his hands against those who were at peace with him; he has broken his covenant.


He who walks in his uprightness fears Jehovah, but he who is perverse in his ways despises Him.


Hear this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and have come out of the waters of Judah; who swear by the name of Jehovah and make mention of the God of Israel (but not in truth nor in righteousness).
