So the Lord said, “I will destroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—both man and beast, and the creeping things, and the birds of the sky, for I am sorry that I have made them.”


Through this, therefore, the iniquity of Jacob shall be forgiven, and this will be the full price of the removal of his sin: when he makes all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are pulverized, when the groves and incense altars shall not stand.


Then I said, “Lord, how long?” And He answered: “Until the cities are laid waste without inhabitants, and the houses without man, and the land is utterly desolate,


and the Lord has removed men far away, and there is a great forsaking in the midst of the land.


How long shall the land mourn and the herbs of every field wither? For the wickedness of those who dwell in it, the beasts and the birds have been snatched away, because they said, “He will not see our latter end.”


For out of the north there comes up a nation against her, which will make her land desolate, and no one will dwell in it. They will wander away; they will depart, both man and beast.


Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, My anger and My fury will be poured out upon this place, upon man and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.


For the mountains I will take up a weeping and wailing, and for the habitations of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up so that no one can pass through them; nor can men hear the lowing of the cattle. Both the fowl of the heavens and the beast have fled; they are gone.


Because they ministered to them before their idols and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity, therefore I have lifted up My hand against them, says the Lord God, that they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity.


They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall become abhorrent; their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord; they shall not satisfy their souls, or fill their stomachs, for their iniquity has become a stumbling block.


Assyria will not save us, we will not ride on horses. We will no longer say, ‘Our God,’ to the work of our hands. In You the orphan finds mercy.”


O Ephraim, what have I to do with idols? It is I who answer and look after him. I am like a green fir tree; your fruit is found in Me.


Therefore the land dries up, and everyone who lives in it withers with the beasts of the field and the birds of the sky; even the fish of the sea disappear.


And on that day, says the Lord of Hosts, I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will not be remembered any more. And I will also remove from the land the prophets and the unclean spirit.


The Son of Man shall send out His angels, and they shall gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who do evil,


For I tell you, you shall not see Me again until you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.’ ”


“But I have a few things against you: You have there those who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumbling block before the Israelites, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit sexual immorality.
