Now Elisha had become sick with the illness of which he would die. So Joash the king of Israel went down to him and wept before him, and said, “My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen.”


So Elisha died, and they buried him. Now Moabite raiders would enter the land in the spring.


The years of our life are seventy, or even, by reason of strength, eighty; yet their span is but toil and sorrow; they soon pass away, and we fly away.


A generation comes, and a generation goes, but the earth continually remains.


when they fear heights, even the terrors along the road; the almond tree blossoms white, and the grasshopper is burdened down, and the aphrodisiac caper-berry plant fails, because a person is going to his eternal home, and the mourners are throughout the streets;


and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the life breath returns to God who gave it.


Take again another scroll and write in it all the former words that were in the first book, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned.


Our fathers sinned and are no more, but we bear their iniquities.

As it is appointed for men to die once, but after this comes the judgment,


Now Samuel died. And all the Israelites gathered together and mourned him, and they buried him at his home in Ramah. Then David arose and went down to the Wilderness of Paran.
