The Jews had assembled in their cities throughout all the provinces of King Ahasuerus in order to forcibly assault those seeking their injury. No man could stand before them because the dread of them had fallen on all people.


Let my accusers be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a mantle.


His enemies will I clothe with shame, but upon himself shall his crown flourish.”


Let those who rejoice at my calamity be ashamed and brought to confusion; let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who exalt themselves against me.


Let them be put to shame and dishonor who seek after my life. Let them be turned back and confounded who devise evil against me.


May all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled; may they turn back and be suddenly ashamed.


Let them be turned back because of their shame, who say, “Aha, aha!”


My tongue also shall talk of Your righteousness all the day long, for they are confounded and brought to shame who seek my hurt.


Behold, all those who were incensed against you shall be ashamed and humiliated; they shall be as nothing, and those who strive with you shall perish.


But the Lord is with me as a dread mighty One. Therefore my persecutors will stumble, and will not prevail. They will be greatly ashamed, for they will not prosper. Their everlasting shame will never be forgotten.


Likewise you younger ones, submit yourselves to the elders. Yes, all of you be submissive one to another and clothe yourselves with humility, because “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
