Then David recited this lament over Saul and Jonathan his son,


His heart is established; he will not be afraid, until he looks in triumph on his enemies.


For You meet him with the blessings of goodness; You set a crown of pure gold on his head.


Come, behold the works of the Lord, who brings desolations on the earth.


Lead me, O  Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make Your way straight before me.


He will repay my enemies for their evil. In Your faithfulness, destroy them.


For He has delivered me from every trouble, and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.


My enemies would trample on me all day long, for there are many who fight against me, O Most High.


They stir up strife, they lurk, they watch my steps, when they wait for my life.


To You, O my strength, will I sing, for God is my defense, the God who shows me lovingkindness.


Do not remember against us the iniquities of our forefathers; let Your tender mercies come speedily to us, for we have been brought very low.


Only with your eyes shall you behold and see the recompense of the wicked.


My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies, and my ears have heard the doom of my wicked adversaries.


Before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.


As for me, I have not hurried away from being a shepherd after You, nor have I desired the woeful day; You Yourself know that which came out of my lips was in Your presence.


Blessed be God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort,


For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will not precede those who are asleep.


But after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called us to His eternal glory through Christ Jesus, will restore, support, strengthen, and establish you.
