Joab said to the man who was reporting to him, “What? You saw him? Why did you not strike him on the spot, sending him to the ground? I would have given you ten shekels of silver and a belt.”


Abner continued still to reason with Asahel, “Abandon your pursuit. Why should I strike you down? How then could I show my face to your brother Joab?”


Attend unto my cry, for I am brought very low; deliver me from my persecutors, for they are stronger than me.


Let them be put to shame and dishonor who seek after my life. Let them be turned back and confounded who devise evil against me.


For strangers have risen against me, and oppressors seek my life; they do not set God before them.    Selah


then may the enemy pursue my life and overtake me; may my enemy trample my life to the ground, and lay my honor in the dust.   Selah


Arise, O  Lord, in Your anger; rise up because of the rage of my adversaries, and awaken Yourself for me; You have commanded justice.


He has set me in dark places, like the dead of long ago.


Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost. We are cut off completely.’


Do not rejoice over me, my enemy! Although I have fallen, I will rise; although I dwell in darkness, the Lord is my light.
