and assemble an army like the army that you lost, horse for horse and chariot for chariot, and we will fight them in the plain and will surely be stronger than they.” And he listened to their advice and followed it.


“If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, ‘You are my confidence’;


They opened wide their mouths against me, and said, “Aha, aha, our eyes have seen it.”


Though while he lives he blesses himself — for men will praise you when you do well for yourself—


those who trust in their wealth and boast in the abundance of their riches?


You will destroy those who speak lies; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.


Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man? The goodness of God endures continually.


They spew forth their arrogant words; all the workers of iniquity boast.


“The enemy said, ‘I will pursue. I will overtake. I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them. I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.’


Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law contend with them.


I have seen everything in my vain life: There is the righteous person who dies in his righteousness; and there is the wicked person who prolongs his life in his wickedness.


Whom have you reproached and blasphemed? And against whom have you raised your voice, and lifted up your eyes haughtily? Against the Holy One of Israel!


For the iniquity of his unjust gain I was angry and struck him; I hid My face and was wrathful, and he went on turning away in the way of his heart.


But your eyes and your heart are intent only on your covetousness and on shedding innocent blood and on oppression and violence.


I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your funeral offerings on the lifeless forms of your idols, and I shall abhor you.


“Woe to him who gets evil gain for his house, to set his nest on high, to be delivered from the power of calamity!”


Then He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness. For a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”


And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take rest. Eat, drink, and be merry.’


They were filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and craftiness. They are gossips,


who know the righteous requirement of God, that those who commit such things are worthy of death. They not only do them, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.


nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.


For this you know, that no sexually immoral or impure person, or one who is greedy, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.


and it happens that, when he hears the words of this covenant, he blesses himself in his heart, saying, “I shall have peace, even though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart,” thus destroying the watered ground with the dry.


When the Lord saw it, He despised them, because of the provocation of His sons and daughters.


Therefore put to death the parts of your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, inordinate affection, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.


Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into this city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit,”


But now you are rejoicing in your boastings. All such rejoicing is evil.


Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.


He said to his mother, “The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from you, on which you put a curse, even speaking the curse in my ears—behold, the silver with me. I took it.” Then his mother said, “May the Lord bless my son!”


Saul said, “Blessed are you of the Lord, for you have had compassion on me.
