For how will it be known that I have found favor in Your sight, I and Your people? Is it not by Your going with us, so that we will be distinguished, I and Your people, from all the people who are on the face of the earth?”


A man who separates himself seeks his own desire; he defies all sound judgment.


But they said, “We will drink no wine, for Jonadab the son of Rekab our father commanded us, saying, ‘You shall not drink wine, neither you nor your sons forever.


You shall be holy unto Me, for I the Lord am holy and have separated you from other peoples, that you should be Mine.


Speak to the Israelites, and say to them: When a man makes a special vow to the Lord based on the equivalent value of persons,


If a woman makes a vow to the Lord, and binds herself by a bond, while in her father’s house in her youth,


And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:


For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.


Yet Paul remained many days. He had his hair cut in Cenchrea, for he had taken a vow. Then, bidding farewell to the brothers, he sailed to Syria, and Priscilla and Aquila were with him.

Now be careful, I pray, that you drink no wine or strong drink and that you do not eat anything unclean,


for behold, you will conceive and bear a son. No razor may touch his head, for the boy will be a Nazirite to God from the womb. He will begin to save Israel from the hand of the Philistines.”


So he told her all his secrets and said to her, “No razor has touched my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. If I were shaven, my strength would leave me, and I would become weak and be like all other men.”


Therefore also I have let the Lord have him. As long as he lives he will be dedicated to the Lord.” And he worshipped the Lord there.
