Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it on Ephraim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh’s head, crossing his hands, for Manasseh was the firstborn.


Joseph saw Ephraim’s children to the third generation. Also, the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were brought up on Joseph’s knees.


Afterward Hezron had relations with the daughter of Machir, the father of Gilead, whom he took as a wife when he was sixty years old, and she bore Segub for him.


And the chief fathers of the families of the sons of Gilead the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near, and spoke before Moses and before the leaders, the chief fathers of the Israelites.


Then allotment was made to the tribe of Manasseh, for he was the firstborn of Joseph. To Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, were allotted Gilead and Bashan, because he was a warrior.


Some came from Ephraim, whose roots were in Amalek, following you, Benjamin, with your people. From Machir rulers came down, and from Zebulun those who carry the staff of a scribe.
