And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by his horns. So Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up as a burnt offering in the place of his son.


Then He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you.”


Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar.


Then Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God, and Aaron and all the elders of Israel came to eat bread with Moses’ father-in-law before God.


And the Lord called Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying:


He answered, “Must I not take heed to speak what the Lord puts in my mouth?”


He said to Balak, “Stand here by your burnt offerings while I meet the Lord over there.”


Balak did as Balaam had spoken, and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bull and a ram.


But Balaam answered Balak, “Did I not tell you, saying, ‘All that the Lord speaks, I must do’?”


God met Balaam, and he said to Him, “I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered on every altar a bull and a ram.”


And when Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel, he did not go as other times to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.


Again, the devil took Him up on a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their grandeur,


but I refused to listen to Balaam. Therefore he blessed you still, and I delivered you out of his hand.
