He removed the high places, broke down the sacred pillars, cut down the Asherah poles, and crushed the bronze serpent that Moses had made, for until those days the Israelites had made offerings to it. They called it Nehushtan.


The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy.


Rejoice not, O Philistia, all of you, because the rod that struck you is broken; for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth a viper, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.


The burden of the beasts of the Negev. Through a land of trouble and anguish, from which comes the lioness and lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches on the shoulders of young donkeys, and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people who shall not profit them.
