Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh; their voice shall be heard even to Jahaz; therefore the armed soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his life shall be grievous to him.


And judgment has come upon the plain country: upon Holon and Jahzah and Mephaath,


From the outcry of Heshbon even to Elealeh, and even to Jahaz, they have uttered their voice, from Zoar even to Horonaim and to Eglath Shelishiyah; for also the waters of Nimrim shall become desolate.


Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars. He was strong as the oaks, yet I destroyed his fruit above and his roots below.


Edom said to him, “You will not pass through me, lest with the sword I come out against you.”


Edom refused to give Israel passage through his territory, so Israel turned away from him.


on this side of the Jordan, in the valley over against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon, whom Moses and the Israelites struck down, after they had come out of Egypt.


Yet Sihon did not trust Israel to pass through his territory, so Sihon gathered all his people and set up camp in Jahaz to fight with Israel.
