38 As for the censers of these men who have sinned at the cost of their own lives, make them into hammered plates as a covering for the altar, for they presented them before the Lord and they are holy. They shall be a sign to the Israelites.

Then King Solomon swore by the Lord, saying, “May God do so to me and more also if this word does not cost Adonijah his life.


but they lie in wait for their own blood; they lurk secretly for their own lives.


The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion; he who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.


but he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; all those who hate me love death.”


Now thus says the Lord God of Hosts, the God of Israel: Why are you committing this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and infant, out of Judah, leaving you no one to remain,


And I will set My face against that man and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of My people. And you shall know that I am the Lord.


You have given shameful counsel to your house by cutting off many peoples, and forfeiting your life.


Tell Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest to take up the censers out of the blaze, for they are holy. Then scatter the fire far and wide.


So Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers, which those who were burned had offered, and they were hammered out as a covering on the altar,


to be a memorial to the Israelites, that no outsider, who is not of the descendants of Aaron, shall approach to offer incense before the Lord, that he might not become like Korah and his company, as the Lord has said to him through Moses.


The Lord said to Moses, “Return the rod of Aaron before the testimony, to be kept for a warning to rebels, that you may put an end to their complaints before Me, or else they will die.”


And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them with Korah when that company died, when the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men, and they became a sign.


Now all these things happened to them for examples. They are written as an admonition to us, upon whom the end of the ages has come.


and if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, making them an example to those afterward who would live ungodly lives;
