Therefore He raised His hand against them to overthrow them in the wilderness,


Therefore their days did He consume like a breath, and their years in terror.


And I will purge from among you the rebels and those who transgress against Me. I will bring them out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the Lord.


So were all those who were numbered of the Israelites, by the house of their fathers, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war in Israel.


Even all they who were numbered were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.


But among these there was not a man counted by Moses and Aaron the priest when they counted the Israelites in the Wilderness of Sinai


because the Lord had said of them, “They will surely die in the wilderness.” And there was not a man left of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.


But with many of them God was not well pleased, and they were overthrown in the wilderness.


Now the length of time it took for us to come to Kadesh Barnea until we crossed over the brook Zered was thirty-eight years, until all the generation of the men of war perished from among the army, just as the Lord swore to them.


And with whom was He grieved for forty years? Was it not with those who had sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?


The Israelites had traveled forty years in the wilderness until all the people, the men of fighting age who came out of Egypt, died, because they did not obey the Lord. The Lord had sworn not to let them see the land that He had sworn to their fathers to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey.


Now I want to remind you, though you already know, that the Lord saved the people out of the land of Egypt and afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
