“Now, my son, may the Lord be with you, and may you have success in building the house of the Lord your God just as He has spoken concerning you.


They captured unassailable cities and a fertile land. They possessed houses full of all goods, wells dug, vineyards, olive groves, and fruit trees in abundance, so they ate, were filled, and became fat, and they indulged themselves in Your great goodness.


For whether in their kingdom or in Your abundant goodness that You gave them, or in the spacious and fertile land that You set before them, they have neither served You nor turned away from their wicked deeds.


I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel their grazing ground shall be. There they shall lie on good grazing ground, and in a rich pasture they shall feed upon the mountains of Israel.


He shall enter peaceably even upon the richest places of the realm. And he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers’ fathers. He shall distribute among them the plunder and spoil and riches. And he shall plan his devices against the strongholds, but only for a time.


Woe is me! Because I am as the gathering of summer fruit, as the gleaning of grapes; there is no cluster to eat, no early fig that my soul desires.

They turned and went up into the hill country and came to the Valley of Eshkol and scouted it out.


They took the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down to us, and brought us word again, and said, “It is a good land which the Lord our God is giving us.”


He gave Joshua, the son of Nun, an exhortation, and said, “Be strong and of a good courage, for you will bring the Israelites into the land which I swore to them, and I will be with you.”


So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”


“Be strong and courageous, for you shall provide the land that I swore to their fathers to give them as an inheritance for this people.


Have not I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”


Then Joshua son of Nun sent two men out from Shittim to spy, saying, “Go see the land, especially Jericho.” So they went, and they came to the house of a prostitute named Rahab. They spent the night there.


So the king of Jericho sent orders to Rahab, “Bring out the men who came to you, who have entered your house, for they came to spy out the whole land.”
