Now the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.


He gave them their request, but He sent a wasting disease on them.


So in the evening the quail came up and covered the camp, and in the morning a layer of dew was surrounding the camp.


Now the Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, when we ate bread to the full, for you have brought us forth into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”


Then Moses said, “This will happen when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening and bread in the morning to satisfy, for the Lord hears your murmurings which you murmur against Him. And what are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against the Lord.”


A full soul loathes honey, but to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.


A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My fear? says the Lord of Hosts to you, O priests, who despise My name. But you say, “How have we despised Your name?”


Where am I to get meat to give to all these people? For they weep to me, saying, ‘Give us meat, that we may eat.’


You shall eat, not one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days,


And Moses said, “The people I am with number six hundred thousand foot soldiers, and You have said, ‘I will give them meat that they may eat a whole month.’


And why has the Lord brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should become prey? Is it not better for us to return to Egypt?”


And they said one to another, “Let us select a leader, and let us return to Egypt.”


Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land that flows with milk and honey to kill us in the wilderness because you make yourself a prince over us?


And why have you brought up the assembly of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our livestock should die here?


The people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up from Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread or water, and our soul loathes this worthless manna.”


‘Look, you scoffers, marvel and perish! For I will perform a work in your days which you will never believe, even if someone declares it to you.’ ”


Therefore he that despises does not despise man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.


Joshua said to all the people, “Behold, this stone will be a witness for us, for it has heard all the words of the Lord that He spoke to us. It will be a witness for us, lest you deny your God.”


But you have today rejected your God, who saves you from all your troubles and your distresses. And you have said to Him, ‘No, but set a king over us.’ Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes, and by your clans.”


“Therefore the Lord God of Israel says, ‘I surely said that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before Me forever,’ but now the Lord says, ‘Far be it from Me to do so, for those who honor Me, I will honor, and those that despise Me will be humbled.
