18 “And say to the people: Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat, for you have wept in the hearing of the Lord, saying, ‘Who will give us meat to eat? For it was better for us in Egypt.’ Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat.

So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you. Purify yourselves and change your clothes.


though he spares it and does not forsake it, but keeps it in his mouth,


When he is about to fill his belly, God will cast the fury of His wrath on him and will rain it on him while he is eating.


Behold, He struck the rock, so that the waters gushed out and the streams overflowed. Can He give bread also? Will He provide meat for His people?”


Then Moses said, “This will happen when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening and bread in the morning to satisfy, for the Lord hears your murmurings which you murmur against Him. And what are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against the Lord.”


The Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and have them wash their clothes,


He said to the people, “Be ready for the third day. Do not go near your wives.”


Let the priests also, which come near to the Lord, sanctify themselves, lest the Lord break through against them.”


Now when the people complained openly before the Lord, the Lord heard, and His anger burned. Then the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed the outskirts of the camp.


You shall eat, not one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days,


whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust away. And in their hearts they turned back to Egypt,


“Get up! Consecrate the people and say, ‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, for thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: “Things dedicated for destruction are in your midst, O Israel. You are not able to stand before your enemies until you remove the things dedicated for destruction from your midst.”


So the people came to Bethel and sat there before God until evening. They raised their voices and wept, sobbing loudly.
