Moreover, all countries came to Egypt to Joseph to buy grain, because the famine was so severe in all the lands.


And he said, “Behold, I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there and buy some for us, so that we may live and not die.”


And Judah said to Israel his father, “Send the boy with me, and we will arise and go, so that we may live and not die, both we and you, and also our little ones.


Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we and our land will be slaves to Pharaoh. Also give us seed, so that we may live and not die, so that the land will not be desolate.”


Now one of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord, but a creditor has come to take my two sons as slaves.”


Others were saying, “We have mortgaged our fields, vineyards, and houses so that we might acquire grain because of hunger.”


You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you do not have enough; you drink, but you are not filled with drink; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes.


If you will not listen, and if you will not take it to heart to give honor to My name, says the Lord of Hosts, I will send a curse on you and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have cursed them already, because you do not take it to heart.


You must not charge interest on a loan to your brother: interest on money, interest on food, or on anything that may be lent with interest.
