Trust not in oppression; put no vain hope in robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them.


At evening time, behold, terror! And before the morning, they are no more. This is the portion of those who plunder us, and the lot of those who rob us.


They shall not drink wine with song; strong drink shall be bitter to those who drink it.


Who gave up Jacob as spoil, and Israel to the robbers? Did not the Lord, against whom we have sinned? For they would not walk in His ways, nor were they obedient to His law.


Swearing, lying, and killing, and stealing and adultery break out, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.


The lion tore enough food for his cubs, and strangled prey for his lionesses; he has filled his caves with prey, and his dens with flesh.


I am against you, says the Lord of Hosts, and I will burn your chariots in smoke, and the sword will devour your lions. I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers will be heard no more.


“Woe to him who builds a town with bloodshed and establishes a city on iniquity!”
