Judah is a lion’s cub; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He crouches and lies down like a lion; and as a lion, who dares rouse him?


Therefore all hands shall be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt,


For thus the Lord has spoken to me: Like the lion, and the young lion, roars over his prey, against which a multitude of shepherds is called out against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor disturbed at their noise, so shall the Lord of Hosts come down to fight for Mount Zion, and for its hill.


Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions; they shall roar and lay hold of the prey; and shall carry it away, and no one shall deliver it.


The young lions roared at him and roared loudly, and they made his land a waste; his cities have been destroyed, without inhabitant.


The lion has come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the nations is on his way. He has gone forth from his place to make your land desolate. And your cities shall be laid waste without an inhabitant.


Israel is a scattered flock. The lions have driven him away. First the king of Assyria devoured him; and this last one who has broken his bones is Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.


Behold, he will come up like a lion from the thicket of the Jordan to the perpetually watered meadow. But I will make them suddenly run away from it, and whoever is chosen I will appoint over it. For who is like Me? And who will summon Me into court? And who is the shepherd that can stand before Me?


Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him: You likened yourself to a young lion of the nations, but you are as the monster in the seas; and you burst forth in your rivers, and muddied the waters with your feet, and made foul their rivers.


Before them, peoples are tormented; every face turns pale.


They will shepherd the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod at her gates; He will rescue us from Assyria, when he enters our land and when he treads within our border.


The lion tore enough food for his cubs, and strangled prey for his lionesses; he has filled his caves with prey, and his dens with flesh.


Woe to the bloody city! It is full of lies and plunder. The prey never departs.


Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves who leave nothing until the morning.


Behold, a people rises up as a lioness, and lifts himself up as a lion; it shall not lie down until it eats the prey and drinks the blood of the slain.”
