5 Thus says the Lord: Regarding the prophets who mislead My people — the ones who have something to eat proclaim “Peace,” but if one does not feed them, then they prepare for war against him.

To show partiality is not good, but for a piece of bread will a man transgress.


As for My people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O My people, those who lead you cause you to err, and destroy the way of your paths.


who plan to cause My people to forget My name by their dreams, which they tell to their neighbor, as their fathers have forgotten My name for Baal.


Behold, I am against those who prophesy false dreams, says the Lord, and recount them and cause My people to err by their lies and reckless boasting. Yet I did not send them or command them. Therefore they shall not profit this people at all, says the Lord.


They have healed also the brokenness of the daughter of My people superficially, saying, “Peace, peace,” when there is no peace.


“Prepare war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon.” “Woe to us, for the day declines, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.”


Your prophets have seen for you false and deceptive visions; they have not revealed your iniquity, to bring back your captives, but have seen for you oracles that are false and misleading.


Thus My hand shall be against the prophets who see vanity and who divine lies. They shall not have a place in the council of My people, nor shall they be written in the register of the house of Israel, nor shall they enter the land of Israel so that you may know that I am the Lord God.


You will stumble in the day, and the prophet also will stumble with you in the night, and I will destroy your mother.


Proclaim this among the nations: Consecrate a war! Stir up the mighty men! Let all the men of war draw near and rise.


If a man, going about vapidly and deceitfully, lies, “I will preach for you wine and beer,” he would be just the preacher for this people.


Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets practice divination for money. Yet upon the Lord they lean, saying, “Is not the Lord in our midst? Evil will not come upon us.”


But you have departed from the way. You have caused many to stumble at the law. You have violated the covenant of Levi, says the Lord of Hosts.


Leave them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the ditch.”


“Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.


For such people do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own appetites, and through smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.
