So Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up and attacked and killed him, and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.


Truly I say to you, among those who are born of women, there has risen no one greater than John the Baptist. But he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.


As they departed, Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?


They said, “Some say that You are John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”


For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him. But the tax collectors and prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterward repent and believe him.


Therefore, bear fruit worthy of repentance,


saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe the gospel.”


As it is written in the Prophets: “Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.”


“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; for you will go before the presence of the Lord to prepare His ways,


When the messengers of John had departed, He began to speak to the crowd concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?


beginning from the baptism of John until the very day that He was taken up from us, one of these men must become with us a witness of His resurrection.”


“Now behold, the Lord has kept me alive, just as He said, for forty-five years, since the Lord spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness. And now behold, I am this day eighty-five years old.


The descendants of Moses’ father-in-law, the Kenite, went up with the descendants of Judah from the City of Palms to the Negev near Arad. Then they went and lived with the people.
