“Nevertheless they became disobedient, and rebelled against You, and cast Your law behind their backs, and killed Your prophets who had warned them to turn back to You. But they committed terrible provocations.


Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me in the shadow of Your wings,


How excellent is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore mankind seeks refuge in the shadow of Your wings.


Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For in You my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of Your wings will I take refuge, until these calamities pass by.


for You have been my help. Therefore in the shadow of Your wings will I rejoice.


He shall cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you find refuge; His faithfulness shall be your shield and buckler.


What more could have been done to My vineyard that I have not done in it? Why, when I expected it to bring forth good grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes?


Why, when I came, was there no man? When I called, was there no one to answer? Is My hand so short that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at My rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness; Their fish stink because there is no water, and die for thirst.


In vain I have smitten your children; they received no correction. Your own sword has devoured your prophets like a destroying lion.


They brought Uriah out of Egypt and led him to Jehoiakim the king, who slew him with the sword and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.


Indeed this city has been to Me a provocation of My anger and My fury from the day that they built it, even to this day, so that I should remove it from before My face,


I also have sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, “Return now every man from his evil way and amend your deeds, and do not go after other gods to serve them, and you will dwell in the land that I have given to you and to your fathers.” But you have not inclined your ear or obeyed Me.


But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel to seize Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet. But the Lord hid them.


O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you?


However, I sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, “Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate.”


Be instructed, O Jerusalem, lest My soul depart from you; lest I make you desolate, a land not inhabited.


As I called them, so they went from Me. They sacrificed to the Baals and burned incense to idols.


My people are bent on backsliding from Me. Though they called to the Most High, none at all exalt Him.


Woe to them, for they have fled from Me! Destruction to them, for they have rebelled against Me! Though I would redeem them, yet they speak lies against Me.


Do not be like your fathers to whom the former prophets cried, “Thus says the Lord of Hosts: Turn away from your evil ways and deeds!” But they did not listen or pay attention to Me, says the Lord.


and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding, but they would not come.


the rest took his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them.


and say, ‘If we lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have partaken with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’


Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.


Rejoice and be very glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in this manner they persecuted the prophets who were before you.


“He was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and entreated him.


who both killed the Lord Jesus and their own prophets and have persecuted us. They do not please God and are contrary to all men,


I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. When I saw her, I marveled greatly.


May the Lord reward your deeds. May you have a full reward from the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.”
