“You, Ezra, according to the wisdom of your God who empowers you, appoint magistrates and judges to judge all the people of the province Beyond the River, all those who know the laws of your God and those who do not, whom you must teach.


this Ezra went up from Babylon. He was a scribe skilled in the Law of Moses, given by the Lord God of Israel. Because the hand of the Lord his God was upon him, the king granted him all his requests.


For a priest’s lips should preserve knowledge, and people should seek the law from his mouth; for he is the messenger of the Lord of Hosts.


Therefore, whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do their works. For they speak, but do nothing.


He said to them in His teaching, “Beware of the scribes, who love to go about in long robes and love greetings in the marketplaces,


“Beware of the scribes who desire to walk in long robes and who love greetings in the marketplaces and the prominent seats in the synagogues and the seats of honor at banquets,


Surely, He loved the people; all His holy ones are in Your hand, and they sit down at Your feet; everyone receives Your words.
