He said, “Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord.” So he made him ride in his chariot.


“But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius?


Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’


“Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces so they may appear to men to be fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.


“Therefore, when you do your charitable deeds, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.


But you, when you pray, enter your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.


“He said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours.


“But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things. But now he is comforted and you are tormented.


As You have given Him authority over all flesh, He will give eternal life to all whom You have given Him.


Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced, and all the world may become accountable to God.


God forbid! Let God be true, and every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words, and may prevail in Your judging.”
