Tell us then, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”


Show Me the tax money.” They brought Him a denarius.


They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” Then He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”


But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he permitted Him.


Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”


The men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? Surely he has come up to defy Israel, and it will be that the man who kills him, the king will enrich with great riches, will give him his daughter, and will make his father’s house exempt from taxes in Israel.”
