Then the Pharisees went out and took counsel against Him, how they might kill Him.


Then scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying,


Then Jesus said to them, “Take heed and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”


The Pharisees also came to Him, tempting Him and saying, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?”


Then the Pharisees went and took counsel to entangle Him in His words.


But Jesus perceived their wickedness and said, “Why test Me, you hypocrites?


The same day the Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him,


“The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat.


The next day, following the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered before Pilate,


For I say to you that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will in no way enter the kingdom of heaven.


When the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”


The Pharisees came to test Him, asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”


Should we pay, or should we not pay?” But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, “Why test Me? Bring Me a denarius that I may see it.”


Then the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him, saying,


And behold, a lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”


Others, testing Him, asked Him for a sign from heaven.


He perceived their craftiness and said to them, “Why do you test Me?


Some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is any resurrection, came to Him and asked Him,


They said this, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear them.


As they spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them,


Then the high priest and all those who were with him (that is, the sect of the Sadducees) rose up and were filled with jealousy.


For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom.
