The Lord said to the Adversary, “From where do you come?” And the Adversary answered the Lord, saying, “From roaming on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.”


O God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.


I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.


Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds it empty, swept, and put in order.


And behold, they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with You, Jesus, Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?”


Even Simon himself believed. And when he was baptized, he continued with Philip and was amazed as he watched the miracles and signs which were done.


Be sober and watchful, because your adversary the devil walks around as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
