The Adversary answered the Lord, saying, “Skin for skin; yes, all that a man has he will give for his life.


“Can a man be profitable to God, as he who is wise may be profitable to himself?


for when he dies he will take nothing away; his glory will not descend after him.


You said, “It is vain to serve God. What profit is it that we have kept His ordinance, and that we have walked as mourners before the Lord of Hosts?


For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?


For whoever would save his life will lose it. But whoever would lose his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.


Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?


For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, yet loses or forfeits himself?


What fruit did you have then from the things of which you are now ashamed? The result of those things is death.
