He was despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from him; he was despised, and we did not esteem him.


Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from You.”


A wicked and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” So He left them and departed.


When He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, “Stretch your hand forward.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other.


And He was amazed, because of their unbelief. Then He went to the surrounding villages, teaching.


Looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.”


Then He left them and, entering the boat again, departed to the other side.


He answered, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.”


When He came near, He beheld the city and wept over it,
