So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, “Get up, get out of this place, for the Lord will destroy this city!” But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.


So he went in, and shut the door on the two of them, and prayed to the Lord.


But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite subordinate, and Geshem the Arabian heard it, they laughed at us in mockery, and despised us, and said, “What is this thing that you are doing? Are you rebelling against the king?”


“I am a laughingstock to my neighbor, who calls upon God, and He answers him; the righteous, upright man is a laughingstock.


All who see me mock me; they sneer with the lip; they shake the head, saying,


That which goes into the mouth does not defile a man, but that which comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”


“Do not give what is holy to the dogs, nor throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet and turn around and attack you.


When He came in, He said to them, “Why make this uproar and weep? The girl is not dead, but sleeping.”


He took the girl by the hand and said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.”


The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things and derided Him.


When they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some scoffed. But others said, “We will hear you again concerning this matter.”
