For thus says the Lord to the men of Judah and Jerusalem: Break up your fallow ground, and do not sow among thorns.


He also who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, but the cares of this age and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.


Some seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.


But other seeds fell into good ground and produced grain: a hundred, sixty, or thirty times as much.


But when the sun rose, it was scorched. And because it had no root, it withered away.


And other seed fell on good ground, and it yielded grain that sprang up and increased by thirty, sixty, or a hundred times as much.”


Then He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness. For a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”


“Take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts become burdened by excessiveness and drunkenness and anxieties of life, and that Day comes on you unexpectedly.


That which fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity.


Yet some fell among thorns. And the thorns sprang up with it and choked it.
